    Schedule: Thursday through Monday (8-10 hour days - ideally three 2 hour tours per day) — Weekend availability is needed 

    Employment Type: Seasonal, Summer 2025 (Late May/Early June through Mid-October) Compensation: Pay is based on experience. In addition to base pay, Captains earn tips typically ranging from 15–20% of the tour value. 

    About Nauti Sisters Sea Farm 

    Nauti Sisters Sea Farm is a small-scale, women-owned oyster farm in Yarmouth, Maine. Since 2020, we’ve built a community around sustainability, storytelling, and delicious Maine oysters. We’re proud to offer immersive farm tours that highlight aquaculture, working waterfronts, and the salty charm of coastal Maine — all while working toward carbon neutrality. 

    After a successful 2024 tour season, we’re growing — and we’re on the lookout for both a full-time Captain and Tour Manager, and part-time/on-call Captains to join our team in 2025. 

    Position Overview

The ideal candidate thrives on guest interaction, enjoys storytelling, and can confidently operate a vessel while ensuring a safe, educational, and fun environment. 

    You’ll lead small-group boat tours (up to 6 guests) from the Royal River in Yarmouth to our floating oyster farm, guiding guests through the process of oyster farming and offering hands-on opportunities like harvesting cages and tasting oysters on board. 

    Key Responsibilities 

    Captain small vessels during 2-hour tours, ensuring guest safety and USCG compliance at all times 

    Lead interactive oyster farm tours, blending education, hospitality, and entertainment ● Shuck and serve oysters while guiding guests through a tasting experience ● Engage guests with humor, warmth, and local knowledge 

    Maintain cleanliness and prep the boat between tours 

    Support farm operations as needed (e.g., loading gear, basic farm tasks) 

    Qualifications 

    ● Valid U.S. Coast Guard OUPV Captain’s License (required 

    ● Confident boat handling and navigation skills (familiarity with the Royal River a plus) ● Great with people — excellent communication and public speaking skills ● Passionate about the ocean, aquaculture, and sharing knowledge 

    ● Comfortable shucking oysters (or excited to learn) 

    ● Dependable, organized, and able to work independently 

    ● Available weekends and holidays

  • UAS Sitka Campus is seeking a Mariculture Program Coordinator to assist with the operations and maintenance duties for a growing seaweed and shellfish mariculture training program. This position is term-funded through September 30, 2026.

    To be successful in this position, you will have a broad educational and career background that demonstrates an interest in aquaculture, mariculture, and education. You will have the ability to coordinate travel/transportation logistics, materials/gear distribution, purchasing supplies, and student outreach/intake support. Additionally, you will have skills for working on small vessels and marine equipment operations and maintenance.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    College coursework and experience in a field relevant to aquaculture, mariculture, fisheries, marine sciences is required. 
    Must possess an unrestricted Alaska driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria.

    While not required, the following experiences and qualifications are highly desirable: experience operating a small vessel in coastal Alaskan waters, experience using Oceanographic and Limnological scientific equipment and dry suit SCUBA Certification.

    Position Details:

    This position is located on the Sitka Campus of UAS. This is a full-time, term-funded non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.

    New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.

    Starting salary is $25.11 or higher, depending on experience.

    Are you a graduate student (master’s, doctoral, post-doc) or recent graduate (five years from a terminal degree) interested in understanding how climate justice connects to your research, work, or life? The Climate Equity and Resilience Summer Institute (CERSI) invites you to a transformative three-week summer program designed to deepen your knowledge and grow your community.

    From June 16–July 4, 2025, participants will get to explore climate justice through immersive field trips and hands-on workshops, all while building meaningful connections with others passionate about environmental justice in a variety of contexts.

     

    What you’ll gain:

    • A deeper understanding of what social, climate, and environmental justice means across different scales and contexts.

    • Concrete tools and practices to address and deconstruct power dynamics that influence relationships between academia and communities.

     CERSI is hosted by the Northwest Climate Resilience Collaborative at the UW Climate Impacts Group and is supported by EarthLab.
