Exposing interns to sustainable careers
within the seafood industry.

MIA internships connect women of color to a varieties of career options in the field of aquaculture.

This internship program provides an accessible opportunity to people looking to learn more about viable career options in this marine occupation.

Gaining technical skills in the field, interns have the opportunity to see the work through MIA’s lens, with a focus on the culture and history of minorities (underrepresented demographics) in aquaculture.

In order to connect MIA members to internships and career growth opportunities in the seafood industry, the organization maintains a strong network of industry partners that are dedicated to diversifying aquaculture’s workforce sector. Our partners work with us to develop exclusive internship opportunities that provide the experience our MIA members need to build their careers.

MIA's primary program is our summer internships. Launched in 2022, this program creates viable career development avenues for women of color (WOC) in our network.

Minorities in Aquaculture has three prongs to its programming: Career Development & Internship Placements, Education & Outreach, and the Mentorship Network. Since MIA’s launch in October of 2020, the organization has fully funded 16 women of color in aquaculture internships nationally; successfully raised awareness internationally about diversity, equity, and inclusion in marine sciences.

Our internships are specifically tailored to
each applicant's interests.

We encourage maximum exposure of their desired aquaculture knowledge that assist their unique career development.

Interns rotate between different sites to learn about the variety of conservation efforts created by the industry.
