MIA AQUACULTURE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
In 2026, we are proud to continue our commitment to providing immersive, hands-on aquaculture experiences through our internship program. Designed to support Minorities in Aquaculture members at various stages of their academic and professional journeys, these internships offer invaluable opportunities to gain practical experience in the field, on farms, or in research labs.
Each internship is tailored to align with the interests and career goals of selected participants, ensuring a meaningful and impactful experience.
Internships typically run from June to August, with specific logistics determined upon selection.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AN MIA INTERN
Being an MIA intern means stepping into a hands-on, immersive experience at the heart of the aquaculture industry. Since 2022, our Aquaculture Internship has offered tailored placements designed around each intern’s interests, strengths, and career goals. Interns work across various sites and environments, gaining firsthand exposure to the practices, people, and innovations shaping today’s industry.
Through rotating roles and real-world experiences, MIA interns build practical skills, deepen their understanding of aquaculture systems, and explore multiple career pathways. This program is about learning by doing, growing with intention, and gaining the confidence and clarity needed to carve out your own place in the future of aquaculture.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
U.S. based / 18+ years of age
Completed a minimum of high school or GED education
Interested in continuing or building a career in any aquaculture sector (shellfish, finfish, seaweed, commercial, academia, etc.)
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in physically demanding, labor-intensive conditions from June through August while supporting host partner operations and learning hands-on aquaculture techniques
Hard working, reliable and communicative individuals who can commit to Minorities In Aquaculture’s mission, vision and values
INTERN BENEFITs
Paid Position - $17.50 per hour for 35 hrs/week (Some positions vary based on location/host site)
10 week commitment (includes orientation, program duration, and post-internship offboarding)
Transportation reimbursement (based on location/host site)
Housing near host Partner location (if needed)
Experiencing valuable hands-on aquaculture skills, work, and/or research
Building a professional network of mentors, educators, potential employers, and colleagues within the aquaculture industry
